And their business model is effective: Sephora recently announced its largest expansion in the United States, which includes the opening of more than 60 new Sephora retail stores as well as 200 Sephora kiosks inside Kohl’s department stores.

How Do Sephora Sales Work?
Let’s begin with a general overview of Sephora sales. Sephora restricts its sales to members of its Beauty Insider rewards programme, with the notable exception of its Oh Snap! Sale and a few national holidays such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday.
So there’s the bad news. The good news is that joining the Sephora Beauty Insider programme is free, and there is no minimum spend required to qualify. It takes about 10 seconds to sign up for Beauty Insider, which is less time than it takes to apply a fresh layer of Birthday Confetti-flavored Lancome lip gloss (just saying).
As a Sephora Beauty Insider, you earn points on all purchases that you can redeem for samples, freebies, and other perks. The number of points you earn on various purchases is determined by your membership level.
Sephora Beauty Insider Membership Tiers
They divided the Sephora Beauty Insider program into three membership tiers:
Sephora Insider
When you join Sephora Beauty Insider, you automatically receive Insider status. Insider status is a free, entry-level membership that earns you 1 point back on all Sephora purchases. But, perhaps most importantly, Insider-level membership allows you to participate in many (but not all) of the exclusive Sephora Beauty Insider sale events, such as the Sephora Spring Sale and the VIB Holiday Bonus Sale.
Sephora VIB
When you spend $350 or more at Sephora in a calendar year, you will be automatically upgraded to VIB status. All Sephora purchases earn you 1.25 points when you have VIB status. All Sephora Beauty Insider sale events, including the Sephora Spring Sale, Summer Bonus Sale, and VIB Holiday Bonus Sale, are also available to VIB-level members.
How Often Does the Sephora VIB Sale Happen?
Sephora has three VIP sales a year (April, August, and November), which are referred to as the Sephora VIB Sale, the Sephora Beauty Insider Sale, and the Sephora Rouge Sale. Members of the VIB and Rouge programmes have access to all three sales.
Sephora Rouge
When you spend $1,000 or more at Sephora in a calendar year, you automatically receive VIB Rouge status. Rouge members receive 1.5 points back on all Sephora purchases. The Rouge level also grants you priority access to all Sephora Beauty Insider sale events, such as the Sephora Spring Sale, Summer Bonus Sale, and VIB Holiday Bonus Sale.
Annual Sephora Sales Calendar
Sephora, like many other major retailers, holds sales during national holidays such as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. However, Sephora has its own annual sales holidays, many of which are only available to Beauty Insiders.

Sephora Beauty Insider Birthday Gifts
During the first part of the month, Sephora releases its annual Birthday Gift picks from the most popular beauty brands. Beauty Insider members can choose from these options during their birthday month, so add it to your calendar for when your birthday celebrations roll around.
Sephora Skin Care Sale
The Sephora Skin Care Sale directly competes with Ulta’s January Love Your Skin Event. During the event, Sephora offers a different skincare product for 50% off every day. However, you must act quickly because each one is only available for one day, so don’t miss out on your favourites.
Buy More, Save More Sale
Buy More, Save More sale lets shoppers save on their favorite Sephora Collection products the more items they purchase. You can save up to 20% during this sale.
February
Sephora Presidents Day Sale
As winter drags on and beauty mavens twiddle our thumbs waiting for spring, Sephora’s Presidents Day Sale appears to help us get over the hump. The sale, which begins around the middle of February, offers up to 50% off everything, including makeup, fragrances, skin care, hair care, and other products. Furthermore, Sephora typically offers free shipping with no minimum purchase requirement.
March
Sephora Oh Snap! Spring Sale
Sephora held its first Oh Snap! Sale in 2020, most likely to compete with competitor beauty retailer Ulta’s biannual savings event, 21 Days of Beauty. It is open to all shoppers, not just Beauty Insiders, and is typically held in mid-March and September.
Sephora typically offers one to three top-selling beauty products at 50% off for a single day only. Each offer is only valid for 24 hours or until the product is sold out. Furthermore, Sephora usually limits customers to two purchases of the same product. During past sales, featured brands have included MAC, Urban Decay, Clinique, Too Faced and Smashbox.
April
Sephora VIB Sale (Spring Savings Event)
The Sephora Spring Event, one of the store’s most anticipated events, usually begins in April both online and in stores on almost everything. But, sorry, nonmembers: this one is only for Beauty Insiders, which is yet another reason to join. Sephora offers 30% off Sephora Collection products to all Beauty Insiders, regardless of tier.
Besides sitewide discounts, the event features other perks, including free shipping, free samples and member-exclusive offers. There is no limit to how many times you can shop the Spring Sale as a Sephora Beauty Insider. Sephora credit cardholders can save even more by earning double points on all purchases made during the sale.
- Rouge: 20% off your entire purchase for the entire event.
- VIB: 15% off your entire purchase starting Day 4 to the end of the event.

Sephora Memorial Day Sale
The long holiday weekend sale begins at the beginning of summer. This year’s Memorial Day Sale at Sephora ran from May 1 to May 30 and offered beauty fans up to 50% off brands such as Fenty Beauty, Bite Beauty, Drunk Elephant, Peter Thomas Roth, Sephora Collection, and more.
July
Sephora Fourth of July Sale
Sephora’s annual Fourth of July Sale is a much-anticipated event, albeit one that lasts only a few days. In 2022, it began on July 1 and ran through July 4, with free shipping on all orders (with no minimum). It’s an excellent opportunity to save up to 50% on must-have beauty products.
August
Sephora VIB Sale (Summer Bonus Event)
The Sephora Summer VIB Event is a big deal because it’s only available to VIB Rouge and VIB members, and there’s no limit to how many times you can shop. Historically, the sale includes almost everything. The Sephora VIB Bonus Sale awards eligible shoppers with a sitewide discount, depending on their membership tier that rolls out in different waves for different membership tiers.
- Rouge: 20% off your entire purchase during the entire event.
- VIB: 15% off your entire purchase, starting Day 2 of the sale through the end of the event.
Sephora Oh Snap! Fall Sale
The fall Sephora Oh Snap! Sale is just as enticing as the spring version. It’s the perfect time to stock up on makeup in warmer tones and vibrant colours as the weather cools, the leaves change, and we enter the fall season.

Oh Hair Yeah! Sale
The Oh Hair Yeah! sale at Sephora, which runs concurrently with Ulta’s Gorgeous Hair event, offers up to 50% off everything you’d ever need for your hair. From September 30 to October 10, 2022, new deals will be added on a daily basis.

Sephora VIB Sale (Holiday Savings Event)
The Sephora VIB Holiday Bonus sale, which is open to all membership tiers on virtually everything online and in stores beginning in early November, is yet another Beauty Insider member-exclusive sale. In 2022, the annual Holiday Savings Event began on Oct. 28 and ended on Nov. 7, while in 2021, it began on Nov. 5 and ended on Nov. 15.
The Sephora VIB Holiday Bonus sale, like other Beauty Insider sales, rewards higher membership tiers with greater savings. The Sephora VIB Holiday Bonus Sale, like the Sephora Spring and Summer VIB Bonus Sales, offers eligible shoppers a sitewide discount based on their membership tier. Furthermore, as with the other Beauty Insider sales, Sephora’s VIB Holiday Bonus Sale rolls out discounts in waves for different members.

Sephora Black Friday Sale
Every year, Sephora holds a Black Friday sale in the spirit of the holidays, with savings for everyone, not just Beauty Insider members. Sephora’s Black Friday sale is typically a multi-day event that begins on Thanksgiving Day and continues through Cyber Monday.
Sephora used to offer hot products for $15 or less during Black Friday sales. We’ve also seen gift sets designed specifically for the holiday shopper. Some products were advertised as “limited edition” and “exclusive” in previous sales, and deals are typically only available while supplies last.
Sephora Cyber Monday Sale
Cyber Monday, which occurs on the Monday following Thanksgiving, is the retail world’s online-centric version of Black Friday. This Sephora holiday sale, in the tradition of Cyber Monday sales, includes a series of online-exclusive deals to entice the savvy holiday shopper. This one, too, is open to all holiday shoppers looking for a deal on Sephora. In 2022, shoppers saved 25% on various brands every day beginning even before Black Friday and lasting until November 28.
Sephora has previously discounted hundreds of products by up to 50% and offered gift bundles for $25, $50, $75, and less. During previous sales, they also rewarded shoppers with a free sample if they spend a certain amount during the sale. Like its Black Friday promotions, Sephora Cyber Monday products are available in limited quantities.

Sephora Gifts for All Event
Sephora’s “For All Event” is exactly what it sounds like — all Sephora Beauty Insiders tiers can save during the event. The “Beauty for All Event” first appeared in 2021, shortly after Cyber Monday (Dec. 3 to Dec. 12). In 2022, the “Gifts for All Event” ran from December 2 to December 11, and the “Fragrance for All Event” ran from December 14 to December 24. All Beauty Insiders tiers received 20% off their entire purchase and 30% off the Sephora Collection during the event.
Sephora After-Christmas Sale
Sephora kicks off its after-Christmas sale with an extra 20% off sale beauty products before the gift wrap is ripped off the packages. Use the coupon code EXTRA20OFF to stock up on beauty essentials or those last-minute gifts from Santa.
